The other night the innkeepers went to the movies.
Once a vaudeville theater, the historic Gilson Café and Cinema is now a movie theater serving drinks and dinner. The menu has a wide variety of soups, appetizers, salads and sandwiches, and a full bar including coffee drinks which are a welcome pick me up on a cold winter night. Of course, there is always popcorn with real melted butter. The price of admission is a mere $8.50, dinner and drinks not included.
The doors open at six and dinner is served until seven when the movies start but drinks and desserts are served all evening. The theater is closed on Mondays and reservations are highly recommended on Fridays and Saturdays.
We saw Brooklyn and on another night, The Big Short, both of which have been nominated for Academy Awards.
On one night a couple was sharing a bottle of wine served in a silver wine bucket, and six women were having a girls night out. (Call us for special rates on girls weekends. We also offer discounts on guys weekends, couples weekends, and family reunions. Book four or more rooms and receive 50% off during the winter months.)
If you prefer to dine before the movie, Mario’s and Monaco’s Café are both a short walk down Main Street. But save room for dessert at the Gilson. I am always partial to the hot fudge brownie sundae and a Tia Maria with coffee.
If you join us for a two day getaway this winter we are offering 40% off your second night. Call us today at 860-542-5690.
