This past weekend four of my friends booked the Chalet room at the Manor House for a Girls Weekend. It’s a very economical way to go with four people splitting the one room. It has a queen bed in one room and two twins in the other and both share a bathroom in the private hall. If your budget allows for single rooms we can certainly accommodate you but if you’re looking for a deal and your sisters or old college roommates or neighborhood friends don’t mind getting cozy this is a perfect arrangement.
The ladies arrived at different times Friday night and brought snacks and wine, although we do provide complimentary wine at the Manor House. We sat around the fire snacking, drinking, and catching up until late in the evening.
Late April snow was in the forecast for the next morning so we ditched the hike to Campbell Falls and went antiquing instead.
It is a short drive down Route 44 to Canaan where you head North on Route 7 through the scenic town of Sheffield along a road lined for several miles with a variety of antique shops. We went from Habitat for Humanity’s odds and ends to Mix on Main’s eclectic collection of 60 and 70’s deco style furniture, lighting, and artwork.
The Great Barrington Antiques Center has numerous dealers who have set up so many lovely displays it’s hard to resist not purchasing something.
Right next door is the Michael Wainwright Studio and Outlet Store where you can buy unique pieces of glassware for great prices. Several of the ladies bought unique gifts for upcoming weddings they are invited to this summer.
With our car full of purchases we continued into the hip little town of Great Barrington where there is boutique shopping and fabulous coffee drinks, pastries, quesadillas and pizzas at the Gypsy Joynt. We all opted for a Bloody Mary served with olives, celery, homemade pickled cucumbers, and a slice of bacon. A meal in itself.
Back at the Manor House we quickly changed into our evening wardrobe and headed over to the Wood Creek Bar and Grille where we had dinner reservations before the show at Infinity Hall. We had listened to The Subdudes on YouTube earlier in the day and although we had never heard of them the ladies wanted to experience this beautiful music hall. We all decided we liked their music and the show, as always at this amazing little theater, did not disappoint. The band has five new fans.
Back at the Manor House, Rich still had the fire going and we all made tea from the lounge, still chatting and catching up well past bedtime.
Sunday everyone slept late, had awesome omelets made by my awesome husband, Rich, and then headed home but not before stopping in Hartford at the Mark Twain House which is a delightful museum and tour that shouldn’t be missed if you are traveling through this New England city.
Not ready for the weekend to end, we caravaned over to West Hartford where we had burgers, eggplant fries, and a glass of wine at Max Burger. Everyone agreed they were the best burgers we’ve had in a long time and the weekend was a great success.
