Group Getaways

This weekend the innkeepers, Rich & Sheila, celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary with a group of friends hosting a reunion. We are sharing the wonderful time we had so you too can think about planning a getaway to our Tudor Mansion in the Litchfield Hills with your friends and family.

Our guests arrived at different times on Friday night so we planned a potluck supper. While we waited for everyone to get here we gathered around the fire with cocktails and hors d’oeuvre.

Our friends brought turkey chili, vegetable slaw, apple pie, cheese, crackers, fruit and veggie platters, fruit tarts, and because the innkeepers were busy we called Louie at Haystack Pizza for a double extra-loaded serving of chicken marsala. and as always Louie threw in a large salad and some French onion soup.

The next morning after a filling breakfast made by Rich–the world famous orange zest French toast was as always a big hit– the entire group headed out to burn some calories on a snow covered hike in the Great Mountain Forest. We didn’t have enough snow for cross country skiing but Monday after everyone left we got six inches so get out those skis and snow shoes. Winter has arrived.

After a lunch of leftovers we carpooled in a caravan to Stockbridge where we visited the Norman Rockwell museum. (More on this to come in a future blog.)

Once again pre-dinner cocktails by the fire were the perfect time to catch up on kids, grandkids, vacation travels, and everything else that had been going on since we all last were together. A short walk into town and dinner at the Wood Creek Grill was the perfect end to the day. I had the panko crusted sea bass and Rich thoroughly enjoyed his blackened rib-eye. You can’t go wrong with the chef’s specials and our waitress got an A+ handling such a large –14 of us –rowdy crowd.

Sunday morning found everyone in slippers reading newspapers by the fire before breakfast and the lucky few who didn’t have to head back home too early took a hike to frozen Campbell Falls.
