Explore the Litchfield Hills on an Electric Bicycle

The scenic views and quaint villages in Northwest Connecticut make it a popular destination for cyclists. Cycling routes offer memorable views of covered bridges, rolling hills, rivers, horse farms and luscious green countryside. But the hills are- well, a bit hilly, and that makes them the perfect place to get some assistance from an electric bicycle! If you’ve never ridden an electric bike before, it’s basically just a regular bicycle with gears, but it also has an electric pedal assist that you control. You choose how much assistance you’d like- either keep it on all the time so you don’t need to do much work, or just dial it up when you hit big hills so that you don’t strain yourself too much or have to get off and walk the bike. An electric bike provides the opportunity for you to go a little faster and ride a little longer without tiring yourself out.

Covered Bridge Electric Bikes, located in nearby Cornwall, rents bikes by the hour, ½ day, and full day, with friendly service. The owner, Bob, takes the time to show you how to use the bike and he’ll help you find a route that meets your needs.

We recently took a 22-mile ride starting at the West Cornwall Covered Bridge. We rode along the Housatonic River to Falls Village, where we saw the Great Falls, a 60-foot waterfall along the Appalachian Trail, and then headed up a windy country road over the mountain (with generous pedal assist!). Once on flatter ground, we enjoyed riding past picturesque fields, farms, and country estates.

On our way back, we stopped at the Mountainside Café in Falls Village for delicious locally sourced sandwiches, salads and baked goods, to fuel us for the ride back to Cornwall.

This is just one of the fun outdoor activities you can enjoy during your Manor House Inn stay. We love helping our guests plan the perfect activities to ensure they have a memorable visit.  Check out the Activities page on our website for other ideas or give us a call- we’re happy to share information about the area we call home.
