Each summer, the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival offers performances from world-renowned musicians in a lovely, laid-back atmosphere.  This year, the Festival will offer familiar artists and pieces and will also surprise and delight concertgoers with the new and unexpected.

This year’s Festival will explore “Hidden Influences”- the subtle trends and cultural shifts classical music is experiencing.

The faculty artists this summer include stalwarts like the Brentano Quartet, William Purvis, Scott Hartman, Ransom Wilson, Frank Morelli, Ani Kavafian, Ole Akahoshi, Robert Blocker, and Wei-Yi Yang, to more recent Norfolk artists like the Miró Quartet, violist Melissa Reardon, cellist Raman Ramakrishnan, to other artists who are new or have not been to Norfolk in years, including violinist Martin Beaver, pianists Gilbert Kalish and Wendy Chen, and oboist James Austin Smith.

The Gala on June 29 will feature the vocal ensemble Roomful of Teeth, described by The New Yorker as “revolutionizing choral music.” Their embrace of global choral traditions, along with traditional and modern choral music, make this group one of the most exciting in classical music today.

Tip: The Norfolk Chamber Music Festival offers free concerts every Thursday at 7:30pm and Saturday at 10:30am at the Music Shed throughout the summer.
